‘To Altadena, With Love,’ BIN: Black Information Network Unpacks Impact Of LA’s Wildfires
BIN: BLACK INFORMATION NETWORK and iHEARTMEDIA have launched “TO ALTADENA, WITH LOVE,” a five-part podcast series documenting the EATON FIRES and their impact on ALTADENA’s historic Black middle-class community in GREATR LOS ANGELES. The first episode premieres MONDAY, MARCH 24th, with new episodes released weekly.
Hosted by BIN journalist MIMI BROWN, the series blends history, education, and survivor accounts to explore ALTADENA’s legacy and the community’s fight to rebuild.
BIN: Pres. TONY COLES said, “We are honored to share the stories of the people of ALTADENA—stories of strength, loss, and the incredible resilience that shapes the community. This series is a chance to not only educate listeners about the impact of the wildfires but to celebrate the history and spirit of ALTADENA as it rises from the ashes.”
BROWN added, “Most people only learned about ALTADENA after the fire, but its history was rich long before the flames. This podcast isn’t just about what was lost, it’s about what must be remembered. Because even after the news cycle moves on, this community’s story will still matter.”
Episode one, “THE FIRE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING,” follows BROWN’s personal experience evacuating during the fire. The episode also features survivor stories, including EDGAR JOHNSON, a longtime resident who attempted to fight the flames with a garden hose before fleeing, and WILLIE JOHNSON (81), who discovered a neighbor who stayed behind to protect his home but tragically did not survive.
