Survey Finds One In Five Adults Listen To Podcasts During Meals
According to a survey from YOUGOV, 17% of U.S. adults listen to podcasts during breakfast, 18% during lunch, and 16% during dinner. The data was based on responses from 1,106 U.S. adults.
The survey points out that about one-third of U.S. adults look at their phones while eating breakfast or lunch. That figure drops to 28% during dinner. TV remains the dominant media activity during meals, with 63% of adults watching TV during dinner, 47% during breakfast, and 46% during lunch.
More findings found age-related differences in media consumption. Adults under 30 were more likely than older adults to listen to music or podcasts during dinner, with 24% of younger adults doing so compared to 14% of older adults.
In addition, data shows that BLACK adults are more likely to listen to podcasts during meals. At breakfast, 28% of BLACK adults said they usually listen to a podcast, compared to 16% of WHITE adults and 11% of HISPANIC adults. At lunch, 23% of BLACK adults listen to podcasts, compared to 18% of WHITE adults and 12% of HISPANIC adults.
Gender differences were also reported. MEN were slightly more likely than WOMEN to listen to podcasts at breakfast and dinner. At lunch, 22% of MEN said they listen to podcasts, compared to 14% of WOMEN.
