Radio veteran Production Director/Air Talent TERRY (FOXMAN) FOX recently died in ST. LOUIS (6/7)

He spent the majority of his radio years in ST. LOUIS, however his resume also included WKTU/NEW YORK and KMEL/SAN FRANCISCO. One of the many highlights of his career included a 70s KSLQ/ST. LOUIS promotion called “The Un-Lottery” based on JACK MCCOY’s “LAST CONTEST” on KCBQ in SAN DIEGO. Years later FOX explained that it was one of the biggest challenges he had ever faced as a Production Director.

“We were a Top 40 station and this contest had 98 different prize packages that I had to voice and produce. They were astounding. CHUCK ROBERTS was our program director at the time. We were just coming up with these prizes off the top of our heads. We blew out the CLAYTON (MO) phone system with listener response. The kid who won wanted the ROLLS ROYCE, but he settled for $10,000 cash which is a good thing because we couldn’t afford to give him the car.”

Legendary PD QUINCY MCCOY (His former boss at KMJM (MAJIC 108)/ST. LOUIS) told SAM WEAVER MEDIA, “TERRY FOX was an artist. For my money, he was the best radio production man in the country. Nobody mixed music, sound, and human emotion better than “THE FOXMAN.” His commercials, public affairs productions, and especially his station imaging weren’t your slick, run-of-the-mill production; his material had wit, humor, sincerity, and excitement. There was something truly magical about how FOXMAN’s creativity always hit a responsive chord with the many great programmers he worked with and, more importantly, the listeners.”

“FOX was one of the reasons I took a PD position in St. LOUIS; he was already there. For decades, he was still producing for me at stations in NYC (WKTU and WNEW-AM 1130) and, just a couple of years ago, at KPFA in BERKELEY. He was a dear friend, a wonderful human being; I’ll always hear his laugh and, by God, a real radio guy.”

“My uncle TERRY “FOXMAN” FOX had prostate cancer, diabetes, and COPD. Unfortunately, he passed away this past FRIDAY on JUNE 7th and did not have life insurance. His wishes were to be cremated and I’m making this account to raise money to help the family carry out his wishes. Any amount is appreciated. Please share. Thank you, “Foxmans” family”.
