MERCEDES-BENZ has partnered with GOOGLE to bring AI-based conversational tools to its navigation system. The recently announced collaboration will debut in the new CLA series later this year, reported FORBES MAGAZINE.

The MB.OS operating system will feature GOOGLE CLOUD’s AUTOMOTIVE AI AGENT. The MBUX (MERCEDES-BENZ User Experience) VIRTUAL ASSISTANT will use GOOGLE’s GEMINI AI to handle conversational questions such as, “Where is the closest restaurant with vegan options?” or “When does the restaurant close?”

MBUX is MERCEDES-BENZ’S advanced infotainment and multimedia system was introduced in 2018. It combines features such as natural language, voice control, a customizable touch screen, augmented reality navigation, and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide an intuitive and personalized user experience for drivers and passengers.

MERCEDES-BENZ CEO OLA KÄLLENIUS said, “We are the architects of our software stack. GOOGLE is the cloud provider. the AI mapping features will be free to MERCEDES owners. However, he indicated a subscription model may be introduced for additional tools and packages.”

Users will access these features through the MERCEDES ME app without needing to sign into GOOGLE. Directions and mapping will be displayed on the vehicle’s front screen.
