AMAZON MGM STUDIOS has confirmed that EDDIE MURPHY will star as GEORGE CLINTON in a new biopic directed by BILL CONDON. The film is based on CLINTON’s memoir, “Brothas Be, Yo Like GEORGE, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard on You?”  It will trace his journey to becoming a pioneer of funk music.

The project reunites MURPHY and CONDON. The two collaborated on Dreamgirls in 2006, earning MURPHY an OSCAR nomination and a GOLDEN GLOBE. The script adaptation is written by VIRGIL WILLIAMS adapted from original draft penned by MAX WERNER.

In addition to his starring role, MURPHY will produce the film through EDDIE MURPHY PRODUCTIONS, joined by CHARISSE HEWITT-WEBSTER as an Exec. producer. DAVIS ENTERTAINMENT’s JOHN DAVIS will also produce, alongside GEORGE CLINTON, ARCHIE IVY, and JEFF JAMPOL as Exec. producers. CATHERINE DAVIS, a longtime fan of CLINTON, initiated the project by bringing the story to MURPHY.

AMAZON MGM STUDIOS Chief Production Officer GREG YOLEN commented, “The opportunity to work on a story that celebrates GEORGE’s vision and influence on music and culture is both humbling and exciting.”

The goal is to release the film as early as 2025.
