Overview:

I examine the history of a station to better understand its relationship with the target demographic audience and the community. I combine that with an analytical study of the current marketplace. This may include a perceptual research study, auditorium music tests, and “walking the streets” talking to people to get a feel of a city. Once I’ve gathered the information I need, I’ll design a tailored campaign for improved station performance.

Services Offered:

  • Audience analysis
  • Enhanced relationship with sales
  • Troubleshooting

  • Review the music being played on the station.

  • In Diary Markets, conduct a diary review.

Office Discovery – Phase 2:

  • One-on-One meetings with staff.

Deliverables:

  • Outlines the strategy to enhance operations.
  • Points out milestones to watch for.

My Experience:

  • 35+ years with multi-format career as an On Air Personality & Program Director: Top 40, Mainstream Urban, Urban AC, R&B Radio, Gospel, and Country (Music Director for 2 years at WUSN, Today’s Country Chicago)
  • 20 years of programming experience: KRNB/Dallas (5 years); Programmed KPRS/Kansas City (10 years); WAMO/ Pittsburgh; WDIA/Memphis; WQMG/Greensboro, NC, and WYLD/New Orleans.
  • The only programmer to have programmed the oldest Black Operated station WDIA/Memphis and currently the oldest Black owned and operated station KPRS-KPRT/Kansas City.
  • Added value to each of the radio properties programmed.

What I Discovered:

  • My 10 years in Kansas City was a radio IQ revelation. I was able to combine past proven programming techniques with new ideas to create on- and off-air campaigns that resulted in consistent increased market shares and larger revenue streams. From these discoveries I was able to develop a formula for cost-effective success not predicated on typical radio marketing and promotion.

  • Nominated Program Director of the year 10 times Combined (R&R & Billboard)
  • Named Programmer of the year (Gavin)
  • Twice named Programmer of the week for Billboard Magazine
