Lil Wayne Producer ‘Deezle’ Sues UMG Over Unpaid Royalties
Producer DARIUS “DEEZLE” HARRISON recently filed a lawsuit against UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP (UMG), alleging failure to pay royalties for his work on LIL WAYNE’s Tha Carter III, reported HIPHOPDX.
HARRISON, who produced six tracks on the multi-platinum album, including the chart-topping single “Lollipop,” alleges he is owed $3 million in unpaid royalties. The lawsuit states that under his deal with CASH MONEY RECORDS, he was contractually entitled to receive a 4% royalty share for the songs he worked on.
In addition to Tha Carter III, HARRISON is also seeking royalties from BIRDMAN’s 2005 album Fast Money, claiming a separate agreement promised him a 3% royalty rate for that project.
DEEZLE previously filed a lawsuit in 2011 against LIL WAYNE, CASH MONEY, and YOUNG MONEY. That case was settled, and royalty payments from UMG reportedly began in 2012. In the new suit, he states that the payments stopped shortly after they started.
