Prince Wanted Changes In Music Industry Business
Practices With Artists
PRINCE was a critic of the music industry and its control over artists and their work. He believed musicians should own their master recordings and have control over their creative output. This led him in the 90s to protest WARNER BROS. by changing his name to a symbol and writing “slave” on his face.
He also criticized the industry’s financial structure with record labels typically taking most of the profits from album sales. PRINCE argued that artists should receive a larger share of the revenue from their music.
