New Social Media App ‘Noplace’ For Gen Zers
NOPLACE is a new social media app that has launched and quickly became one of the most sought-after apps. It targets the Gen Z audience. Some of the features are customizable profiles (users can share relationship statuses), current activities, and more, reported TECHCRUNCH.
The app lets users create mini, customizable profiles with tags called “stars” to reflect their interests and make them discoverable to others. A “top 10 friends” section is much like the days of MYSPACE’s “top 8.”
The app currently supports text-based updates and does not allow photos or videos, but this might change. Users can share real-time updates, such as checking out a new band or visiting a new city.
CEO TIFFANY ZHONG said, “I think that part of the magical, fun part of the internet is gone now. Everything is very uniform.” She added, “I’ve always loved social. Everything is just ‘media.’ It feels very disconnected.”
The app is a free download on iOS and is available in read-only mode on the web. An Android version is not yet available. The company is funded by investors including 776 and FORERUNNER VENTURES, raising around $15 million through a Series of A1 funding round. To date, NOPLACE has raised about $19 million, with a pre-money valuation of $75 million.
